Introduction to Hebrews
The Book of Hebrews is a powerful theological letter that reveals the absolute superiority of Jesus Christ.
It was written to believers who were tempted to return to old religious systems due to pressure and persecution.
“God… hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son.” — Hebrews 1:1–2
Jesus Is Greater Than Angels
Hebrews begins by showing that Jesus is not just another messenger—He is the Son of God.
Even angels worship Him, proving His divine authority.
Jesus is not a messenger of God—He is God revealed.
Jesus Is Greater Than Moses
Moses was a faithful servant in God’s house, but Jesus is the Son over God’s house.
The comparison shows authority difference: servant vs. builder.
“Moses verily was faithful… but Christ as a son over his own house.” — Hebrews 3:5–6
Jesus Is Our Great High Priest
Unlike earthly priests, Jesus is perfect, sinless, and eternal.
He represents humanity before God permanently.
“We have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God.” — Hebrews 4:14
The Perfect Sacrifice Once for All
Animal sacrifices in the Old Testament had to be repeated continually.
But Jesus offered Himself once, and it was enough forever.
“By one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” — Hebrews 10:14
Faith Defined: The Foundation of Christian Life
Hebrews 11 gives one of the most important definitions of faith in the Bible.
Faith means trusting God even when you cannot see the outcome.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” — Hebrews 11:1
The Hall of Faith
Hebrews 11 lists heroes like Noah, Abraham, Moses, and others who trusted God.
They obeyed without having full understanding, simply because God spoke.
Faith is obedience before evidence.
Do Not Give Up
Hebrews encourages believers to persevere under pressure.
Spiritual endurance leads to eternal reward.
“Let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” — Hebrews 12:1
Simple Summary of Hebrews
This book teaches five major truths:
1. Jesus is superior — He is greater than angels, Moses, and all priests.
2. Jesus is our High Priest — He represents us before God.
3. The sacrifice is complete — No more offerings are needed.
4. Faith is essential — We walk by trust, not sight.
5. Endurance is required — Do not give up in hardship.
Final Reflection
Hebrews calls every believer to fix their eyes on Jesus—the author and finisher of faith.
